Abhishek Sharma Drops SITTER Of Gareth Delany In IND Vs IRE 1st T20I

Abhishek Sharma drops an absolute sitter in the ongoing India vs Ireland 1st T20I match in Belfast. On the sixth delivery of the 11th over of the first innings, Ireland batter Gareth Delany went against the Indian spinner Axar Patel for a big shot, but he miscued it.

As a result, the ball went high in the air, but could not get the distance to cover the rope. Abhishek Sharma was right there, under the ball to take it. Might be because of distraction, he dropped the simple chance.

Abhishek Sharma and Arshdeep Singh both went for the catch

Arshdeep Singh, who was posted at the long-on, rushed to take the catch at long-off. Abhishek Sharma came first to take the catch, but might have been distracted by the movement of Arshdeep and dropped the chance. In the meantime, Ireland stole a single.

Abhishek and Gareth Delany both left marks on a positive note because of their effective batting for their respective teams. While Delany performed well from the middle-order when Ireland was in trouble, Abhishek did the same, but as an opener, when the top half of the Indian batting order was swiftly clinched by the home team bowlers.

Half-century for Abhishek Sharma

Batting first, with the help of Delany’s 49 and their skipper Lorcan Tucker’s 50, Ireland posted 182 runs in the first innings. On the other side, Abhishek Sharma registered a half-century for India.

For India, Harshit Rana, who plays his first match after the long injury lay-off, takes 3 wickets and a brace each for Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel.

Arshdeep Singh was confident ahead of the match

Ahead of the first innings, Arshdeep Singh said that they had done good preparations for the series to cope with the conditions in Ireland. According to the pacer, through the training seasons, they were well aware of the wickets and how the ball could behave.

«Preparation has been good, brother. We’re used to the conditions. The boys had a pretty long practice session yesterday, and we adapted according to how the wickets were in the nets. We looked at what will work best, what lengths will be helpful, what shots the batters can play, and also the dimensions of the ground, and the way the wind is blowing. We’ll adapt quickly according to all of that and try to bring a good result,» Arshdeep Singh said.

Arshdeep and the Indian bowlers might have read the conditions well, but the Indian batters will have to show an improved performance from their next game, as most of the top-order batters were dismissed cheaply in the second innings during the run chase.

«For me, this will be a different wicket, the ground dimensions will be different, and it’s a different opposition. You don’t play against this opposition very often, so you’ll have to adapt very quickly. You can’t be surprised. You always have to stay on your toes because the opposition can play in any manner at any time. It’s about how quickly you can adapt and how you can choose the best options,» he further mentioned ahead of the match.
