Indian national cricket team superstars continue to dominate the latest ICC ODI Rankings updated by the International Cricket Council on Wednesday, June 24. Captain Shubman Gill is now inches away from becoming the world’s number one batter in ODI cricket.
Despite missing the recent three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, Virat Kohli remains among the top-5 batters in the latest ICC ODI Rankings. Rohit Sharma also managed to stay among the top 5 in the update rankings after his stunning fifty against Afghanistan in Chennai.
Shubman Gill on verge of becoming No. 1 ODI batter; Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma among Top 5
Shubman Gill’s impressive performances in the recent ODI series against Afghanistan have helped him climb three places in the updated ICC ODI Batting Rankings. The stylish right-hander is now ranked No. 2 in the world and is just 24 rating points behind the New Zealand star Daryl Mitchell, who currently sits at the top of the rankings with 815 ranking points.
With the form Gill is in, the Indian captain is likely to overtake Mitchell in the upcoming ODI series in England. However, Gill’s jump pushed Virat Kohli to the third position with 768 rating points, followed by Rohit Sharma (754 rating points) at the fourth space, with Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran (713 rating points) completing the top 5 in the updated rankings.
Ishan Kishan make big gains in ICC ODI Batting Rankings
Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka and England captain Harry Brook have both made one spot gain and entered the top 10 in the updated ICC ODI Batting Rankings. On the other hand, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan made the significant jump after hitting a stunning century in Lucknow.
The left-handed batter surged 21 places to reach the joint 43rd position in the latest ICC ODI Rankings. Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi moved up four places and is now ranked 52nd among ODI batters following his record-breaking century in the recent India series.
Well, Indian bowlers also enjoyed a memorable rise in the latest rankings. The left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh made a big jump of 16 places to reach the 22nd position in the latest ICC ODI Bowling Rankings. He has taken five wickets in two ODI matches against Afghanistan.
Rashid Khan and Azmatullah Omarzai retains No.1 spot
Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna also climbed 34 places to reach joint 58th position after taking two wickets in two ODIs against Afghanistan. Rashid Khan remains the number one ODI bowler with 682 rating points in the updated ICC ODI Rankings.
Even Indian off-spinner Washington Sundar also gained 17 places and is now placed joint 71st among ODI bowlers despite scoring only 31 runs and taking one wicket in the Afghanistan series.
Speaking about the update ICC ODI All-Rounder Rankings, Afghan star Azmatullah Omarzai remains at the top with 316 rating points, followed by Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza. Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz jumped to the third spot, pushing Mohammad Nabi to the fourth spot. Michael Bracewell completed the top five all-rounders’ list in the updated rankings.
Mitchell Marsh breaks into top 10 in latest ICC T20I Rankings
Australian captain Mitchell Marsh climbed four places and is now ranked ninth among T20I batters in the world. Fast bowler Nathan Ellis also moved up three spots to seventh position among T20I bowlers following his impressive performances in Australia’s 3-0 series win over Bangladesh.
Towhid Hridoy moved up nine places to reach 30th position among T20I batters, while Saif Hassan jumped 13 spots to share the 35th position. Bangladesh spinner Nasum Ahmed’s brilliant bowling performances helped him climb 27 places in the rankings, taking him to 11th among T20I bowlers.
